Take one scroll through social media or one look at this year’s Met Gala and you’ll start to notice a trend. And no, I’m not talking about the obnoxious fashion sense, diamond-infested jewelry, or tricked out cars.

Those things are fun, but there’s another trend sweeping Nashville off its feet – and it has to do with lips.

Full, plump, soft, and pouty lips, to be specific.

Take Kylie Jenner, for example. It doesn’t seem to matter what she’s wearing, where the red carpet is, or what the occasion is – doesn’t she look absolutely stunning every single time she steps out in public?

You can say the same about Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox.

Plump lips have been all the rage for more than a decade, but there has always been one small problem – most people aren’t interested in undergoing lip augmentation surgery to achieve that perfect, full look.

Well, don’t worry Nashville – you don’t have to go that route if you don’t want to. You’ve got options!

Botox: Lip Augmentation Without the Invasive Surgery

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world today with nearly 11 million injections being administered globally every single year – according to the University of California, San Francisco.

In fact, it’s so popular that it barely needs an introduction – but we’ll give it one anyway.

Botox, short for Botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

Like other neurotoxins, it works by blocking the release of acetylcholine – a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction – which can lead to temporary muscle paralysis or relaxation in the targeted area.

Botox is heavily praised for its ability to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly on the forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet), and between the eyebrows (frown lines).

But are people really injecting Botox into their lips?

Well, not exactly, but they are using it to achieve fuller lips.

And with that, we’d like to introduce you to the Botox lip flip.

Catch Ya On the Flip Side: What is a Botox Lip Flip?

Using Botox to make your lips appear fuller might sound a little preposterous, but don’t worry – it’s as safe and effective as any other treatment out there, and is much less invasive than surgery or dermal fillers.

So, what exactly is a Botox lip flip?

A Botox lip flip involves injecting Botox into the corners of the mouth and edges of the lips – also known as the orbicularis oris. This causes the upper lip to curl outward (or flip), making the lips appear fuller.

It doesn’t add any volume to the lips, but creates an optical illusion with a similar outcome.

The procedure only takes 10-15 minutes, it comes with minimal downtime, and most patients can resume their normal day-to-day activities immediately. Results appear within a few days and last for 2-3 months.

Lip Flip vs. Lip Filler: Is There a Difference?

The Botox lip flip might be a new concept to a lot of you, but that’s because there’s another alternative that receives a lot of attention in the cosmetic industry these days – and you’ve likely heard of it before.

It’s called the lip filler – but what is it and how does it work?

Lip fillers are a unique type of dermal filler specifically designed to add volume, shape, and definition to the lips. It can help balance out uneven lips and reduce the appearance of fine lines around the lips.

Where Botox is injected around the lips, dermal fillers are injected directly into the lips.

There are several different types of dermal fillers, but the three most common in the world today include hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) fillers, and poly-L-lactic acid (PLA) fillers.

Here’s a brief comparison between lip fillers and lip flips

  • Lip flips usually cost less than dermal fillers.
  • The lip flip procedure generally takes less time from start to finish.
  • Lip filler results are visible immediately, whereas the lip flip takes a week to settle in.
  • Lip filler results last 6-12 months, whereas the lip flip lasts around 2-3 months.
  • Lip flips provide a more subtle transformation, while lip filler is a little more drastic.

There’s no right or wrong decision when choosing between a lip flip and lip filler. It all depends on how drastic of a change you’re looking for, but don’t worry – that’s what we’re here for, and we want to help!
