I’ve always wondered what it’s like to stand up there on that America’s Got Talent stage – skin glistening, of course – in front of four uber-talented judges, a live audience, and millions of others watching at home.
I finish my performance – let’s say I chose to sing ‘Nashville Without You’ by Tim McGraw – and the judges are giving me feedback when Terry Crews walks up to the table and hits that golden buzzer.
The stage turns gold, that golden confetti comes raining down, the audience goes wild, I punch my ticket to the live shows – now that’s what I call a vibe.
Now, hold on a second, what does this have to do with PRP?
I’m glad you asked!
Think of PRP as the ‘golden buzzer’ for your skin – your one-way ticket to achieving that golden glow you’ve always dreamed of. Tighter skin, reduced scarring, improved wrinkles – the whole package!
PRP, also known as platelet-rich plasma, is a popular skincare treatment that harnesses the power of your own blood to regenerate and revitalize the skin on your face – as well as the hair on your scalp!
At The SKN Bar, we like to call it ‘liquid gold’ because of its golden hue – hence all the gold references from above. But enough with all the puns, you’re probably wondering what PRP is and how it works!
Don’t worry – we got you!
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a unique process, but don’t worry – the pain and discomfort are minimal.
We start by taking a small sample of your blood – it’s still red at this point. The blood then undergoes centrifugation twice – once to separate the red blood cells (which aren’t needed) and again to concentrate the platelets and plasma (that golden stuff).
These platelets are the real MVP here – they’re filled with human growth factors and other proteins that help stimulate the healing process and increase production of two major cell types:
These two cells often communicate with one another and are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, but they can also increase collagen production – the glue that keeps your skin tight, smooth, and youthful.
By extracting the platelets from your blood and injecting them back into the skin, you can supply targeted areas with fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and collagen – everything your skin needs to thrive!
Not only that, but PRP can be injected into the scalp to restore hair growth by increasing blood flow and circulation around hair follicles. That means glowing skin and flowing hair!
It might be liquid gold, but PRP is far from being greedy. In fact, it doesn’t mind sharing its wealth, and that’s certainly the case with microneedling – another popular skincare treatment today.
So, what is microneedling?
Microneedling is the process of poking your skin with tiny microneedles (we’re talking extremely tiny) in an effort to create micro-injuries and trigger the skin’s natural healing response – almost like PRP. As new collagen and elastin form, the skin grows tighter, firmer, smoother, and more radiant.
How can microneedling be combined with PRP?
The microneedling procedure creates hundreds, sometimes thousands, of tiny holes in the skin. Instead of injecting PRP into the skin, we can use these micro-injuries as tiny pathways for the PRP to quickly and easily absorb into the skin – where it works its wonders.
The microneedles already trigger the healing process, but the PRP therapy intensifies that process and gives your skin everything it needs to regenerate, revitalize, and rejuvenate itself.
Are you ready to wave goodbye to those wrinkles and fine lines? Are acne scars, keloid scars, and atrophic scars reducing your self-confidence or self-esteem? Do you get tired of watching your hair whisk away, one follicle at a time? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, contact The SKN Bar today!
We offer top-of-the-line platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to help treat a number of skin issues, including:
Facial injections. Stimulating collagen and elastin production to improve skin health and appearance – including reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.
Scar treatment. Igniting the wound-healing process and stimulating collagen production to eliminate scars, promote connective tissue repair, and rebuild the epidermis.
Hair restoration. Improving blood flow and circulation to the hair follicles, which stimulates the production of dermal papilla cells and facilitates hair growth.
PRP & Microneedling. Combining the powers of microneedling and platelet-rich plasma therapy to encourage improved results on the face (including under the eyes) and scalp
In addition to our PRP treatment, we offer PRFM treatment – the latest in PRP technology (you can think of it as the new kid in school that’s stealing all the attention). Also known as platelet-rich fibrin matrix, PRFM works in much the same way as PRP, but offers extended support for tissue regeneration.
Don’t hesitate to book an appointment with one of our Nashville skincare experts if you’d like to learn more about PRP or are interested in seeing if you’re a good candidate for PRFM – we can’t wait to speak with you!
